Our Materials
As a company focused on conserving nature and delivering quality, materials are our cornerstone. Every shoe goes through one key question: how can we design this without animals, plastic and as little fossil fuels as possible, while still retaining quality? The answer is complex but the rapid improvement of new generation materials has allowed us to avoid the more extractive ones. We meticulously research our materials and check they have been tested for quality. They still are not perfect but they demonstrate an alternative path that relieves pressure on our planet’s natural systems, animals and people.
Soles
Plant based leather
Insoles & Laces
Our leather is made from grain by-product with cutting-edge biotechnology, to create nano fibrillar networks that replicate the strength, flexibility, and durability of traditional leather. Unlike other alternatives this material contains no native plastic (fossil fuel derived) and only 1% bio PU. It is also coloured with natural colourants rather than chemical based. We are still the only shoe in the world to use this product in a commercial shoe.
In comparison with animal leather:
• 95% less GHG emissions• 89% less water• 71% less energy

Soles
Our soles is made from primarily natural rubber thoughtfully extracted from rubber trees. This slower, more meticulous alternative to fossil fuels-derived rubber, encourages regeneration, leading to carbon sequestration and ecosystem protection. We still haven’t been able to utilise a sole from 100% natural rubber, but it is a goal that we are focused on reaching.
Insoles & Laces
The insoles are made from 95% natural materials, utilising materials such as hemp. The laces are made from 100% organic cotton with plant derived and biodegradable aglets.
